Kurt Cobain’s teenage daughter wrested control of the late rocker’s image, likeness and publicity, after a making a multi-million-dollar loan to her cash-strapped mom, Courtney Love, according to a published report.

Love relinquished her spot as acting manager of End of Music LLC —the business entity that generates cash from Cobain’s publicity rights — after she got a $2.75 million handout from daughter Frances Bean Cobain’s trust fund in 2010, according to court documents cited by The Fix.

Says Davis, “For us as a band, it’s just all really about innovating and trying to do different things. When we did the Korn III record, that was also an experiment to see what it’d be like working with Ross [Robinson, producer] again. We’ve always experimented.”

From a technical standpoint, The Path of Totality represented a major challenge, according to the vocalist; he recalls, “We had no clue about what we were doing. That was something that hadn’t been done before. It was a big huge learning curve. That’s why we had asked the producer to mix the album with our engineer and he taught Bud [engineer Jim “Bud” Monti] all kind of stuff and Bud taught him all kinds of stuff so we were exchanging information and getting together and making the thing work.”

Regarding fans’ response, he says, “There’s a lot of closed-minded metal purists that would hate something because it’s not true to metal or whatever, but Korn has never been a metal band, dude. We’re not a metal band. We’ve always been looked as as what they called the nu-metal thing. But we’ve always been the black sheep and we never fitted into that kind of thing so… We’re always ever evolving, and we always piss fans off and we’re gaining other fans and it is how it is. And I love them all, I even love the ones that hate on us, because if they take the time out to go and say that they hate us, it means that they care.”

Still, he remains open to changing the band’s sound again going forward, saying, “I think that since we did this record it wouldn’t be necessary to do another dubstep album, so it’s on to the next thing. Our records are always kind of different, so I think we’ll take what we’ve learned from this, and there might be subtle influences here and there, but I think overall the next Korn album will be different from the last one.”

In November the band reportedly signed on with legendary producer Jimmy Iovine’s label Interscope Records, with news of a potential tour and new album (along with a hefty merchandising deal), and on Monday VH sent out an official announcement via their website.

The message is simple and to the point – a mix of classic hits “Jump,” “Panama,” and “Hot For Teacher” with images of the band rehearsing starts playing, and a ticker at the bottom announces the 2012 tour. Tickets begin going on sale January 10th (actual dates hadn’t been announced as of press time, but we’ll keep you updated).

The band, comprised of singer David Lee Roth, guitarist Eddie Van Halen, drummer Alex Van Halen and bassist Wolfgang Van Halen, are also reportedly releasing an a new album, but no details on the new disc have been revealed as of yet – UNLESS that image above is the new album cover and it’s set for a February 7 release. Otherwise that’s when the tour kicks off.

The band was rumored to play last month’s Grammy Awards Nominations concert, but that turned out to be false. Maybe they’ll show up and perform at the actual Grammys instead.

For several years The Smashing Pumpkins have baffled fans and outsiders alike through moves like unexpected lineup changes and their reticence to play more than a few classic tunes at concerts.

In the band’s recent backstage sitdown at London’s O2 Academy, Billy Corgan and crew addressed many of those topics. Corgan’s thoughts on the current version of the band seemed to point to what was missing in previous incarnations: “I think this particular lineup of the band is very good for who we need to be today — which is nimble, quick, very diverse. We play a progressive style, we’re very consistent, we get a long very well, we like working together, we have common musical goals and I think we have a very bright future.”
