Brandon Flowers Talks Upcoming Solo Album

While The Killers take a break from recording new tunes, frontman Brandon Flowers is prepping his first solo album, Flamingo, set for an autumn release.

He recently sat down to talk about the process, and revealed he’s not only doing a duet with one of our faves, Rilo Kiley’s Jenny Lewis, but also collaborating with producers Stuart Price – who’s worked with Madonna and Kylie Minogue – Daniel Lanois (who’s worked with Bob Dylan and U2) and Brendan O’Brien (Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young).

Flowers says:
“It’s a pretty good line-up, I think. Stuart and Daniel have been working together, and I’ve done another three tracks with Brendan on his own. Jenny’s helped me out on a couple of songs, and we also get to duet on the record, on a song called Hard Enough, which turned out great. She’s always popped into my mind whenever I think about getting a female vocalist involved because she’s a fellow child of Las Vegas, too. It’s all very rooted right here in Las Vegas dirt.”
Wow! He has quite the variety of musical aesthetics working at once!
We can only imagine what the final product is going to sound like!
We’ve got a good feeling about this one, folks.

Axl Rose Declares War On Ex-Manager

Axl Rose has waged war against former Guns N’ Roses manager Irving Azoff, accusing him of attempting to sabotage the rocker’s career after he refused to reunite with the band’s original members.

Azoff, the CEO of management firm Front Line, originally filed suit against Rose in March, claiming the singer reneged on an oral agreement giving him 15 percent of his earnings from a big money concert tour – a deal said to be worth $2 million.

But Rose has fired back at Azoff, accusing the music mogul of failing to properly promote the band’s 2008 album “Chinese Democracy” in an alleged bid to force him to reform the original Guns N’ Roses line-up.

In legal papers filed in a Los Angeles court on Monday, the frontman also takes aim at his one-time manager for allegedly lying about a possible joint tour with fellow rock legends Van Halen and mishandling Guns N’ Roses’ tour dates, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The lawsuit states, “Upon realizing that he couldn’t bully Rose and accomplish his scheme, Azoff resigned and abandoned Guns N’ Roses on the eve of a major tour, filing suit for commissions he didn’t earn and had no right to receive.”

Rose is demanding more than $5 million in damages for breach of fiduciary duty, constructive fraud and breach of contract.

The Mid Winter Concert Series

As part of The Buzz Mid Winter Concert Series brought down by Jarett Hartstone of Hartstone Productions,  The Nate Wilson Group traded in the cold temperatures of Boston for some Caribbean rain, playing a total of ten shows in the USVI.  Gathering much of their inspiration from hard rock of the 60’s and 70’s, the group has drawn comparisons to Led Zeppelin, Wolfmother, and The Black Keys to name a few.  Also from Massachusetts, we were treated to the sounds of Toussaint with the organ trio The Trama Unit.  Featuring Toussaint’s powerful, husky vocals his music combines a mix of reggae, funk, blues, and soul.  The band jammed out with original material as well as some covers over at Fat Turtle, Jack’s, Beach Bar, Larry’s Landing, Rhumb Line’s, Blue Moon Cafe, Zebo’s, Rowdy Joe’s, and Brew Pub.

Happy 2010!

As we bid farewell to 2009 and settle into 2010 we can’t help but look back on some of the music that made our format successful and our job easy over here at the Buzz.  So what were we playing?  Our Top Ten list of 2009 for songs with the most radio playand requests:

1  All American Rejects  “Gives You Hell”

2  Kings of Leon  “Use Somebody”

3  Foo Fighters “Wheels”

4  Cage the Elephant “Back Against the Wall”

5  Paramore  “Ignorance”

6  Pearl Jam  “Fixer”

7  Alice In Chains  “Check My Brain”

8  Creed  “Overcome”

9  Rob Zombie  “What”

10  Depeche Mode  “Wrong”

It really was a fantastic year in music here at The Buzz.  We watched older bands like Alice in Chains come back after ten years and Guns N’ Roses finally released new material.  New bands like Paper Tongues came out with two top ten hits and Cage the Elephant has quickly become one of our listeners’ favorites.

On a more personal note, thanks to our listeners and clients, who helped bring The Buzz to a new level in 2009.  We want to sincerely thank everyone who came out to all of our events and made them successful.  It’s safe to say 2009 marked the year we went from being the underdog to the alpha-dog.  We look forward to what’s in store for 2010!
