Send Metallica Into Space

You now have the chance to send Metallica into space. But not the actual band. NASA has announced a new “Wake-up Song Contest” to allow the public to choose just what songs the crew will hear on the final flight of the space shuttle Discovery this November.

While the voting is, unfortunately, limited to a list of 40 previously played songs, there are still some intriguing choices available for voters, including Metallica’s “Enter Sandman,” 3 Doors Down’s “Kryptonite,” Tom Petty’s “Free Fallin” and “Blue Sky” by Big Head Todd. The top two vote-getters will wake up the crew on their 11-day mission.

A second component of the promotion allows aspiring musicians to submit original songs, with the winning entry to be played on the last planned shuttle mission aboard the Endeavor in February.

Interested in either voting on the Discovery song list or submitting an entry for the Endeavor mission? Visit the NASA website.

Anthrax Preparing Next Album

Anthrax have begun writing and rehearsing for their next album which is expected out in early 2011. It looks like at least half of it will be material the band recorded for their unreleased album with Dan Nelson, who parted ways with the group in 2009 before the band re-reunited with Joey Belladonna.

“We’ve got an unusual luxury of hindsight,” Ian explained. “We finished an album more than a year ago, we’ve lived with those 12 songs since then, and we can look back on them and see what we really love and what we can make even better, especially with Joey back in the fold. On these U.S. dates, we’ll have a portable rig with us so we can work on the songs during any down time, and get everything to the point where we’ll be ready to get into the studio as soon as possible.”

Added Benante, “There are five or six songs from a year ago that we don’t want to change, we love them the way they are, other than having Joey making them his own with his vocals. Then there’s another five or six that we may want to rework, and then there are a bunch of other tunes that are still in the early stages, that we want to finish.”

Anthrax will join Slayer and Megadeth on the Jagermeister Fall Music Tour set to kick off September 24 at Superpages in Dallas, TX. The 20-date concert trek will mark the first U.S. tour Anthrax has done since vocalist Joey Belladonna rejoined the band earlier this year, and the first time the three bands have shared an American stage since the classic 1991 “Clash of the Titans” tour.

New Kings Of Leon Album Coming Soon!

Good news KOL fans!!

Kings of Leon have announced that they’ve taken some time out of their busy schedule to make a new album! Sources say that the band plans on releasing the new studio album possibly as soon as October 19.

Drummer Nathan Followill declares that the album is “locked and finished. With four of the new songs, Mary, Immortals, Radioactive, and Southbound, getting great reception at their concerts, Followill is happy that the fans are so excited about their new stuff. He says:

“They’ve been going over really well, a lot better than we thought they would. Some of them are getting better reactions than the older songs, which is bittersweet but great to see that [fans] are digging the direction we’re heading in this record…It’ll be great when we can play the whole new record…It’s only confirmed that we’re happy with the record we made and the choices we made song-wise. It’s a great feeling to look down front every night, and there are kids singing every single world to songs that aren’t even released yet, which just means they’ve watched them a gazillion times on YouTube. It makes you feel good that the fans are craving the new music that much.”

Ozzy Osbourne Still Angry At Iron Maiden’s Bruce Dickinson

Ozzy Osbourne has aimed a foul-mouthed rant at Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson – insisting he still hasn’t forgiven the singer for their ugly 2005 feud.

The rock stars fell out five years ago while Iron Maiden were performing with Osbourne’s Ozzfest tour.

Dickinson was accused of criticizing the Black Sabbath star during the shows and Osbourne’s wife Sharon was so angry, she allegedly arranged to have eggs thrown at the singer while he was on stage.

And Osbourne admits he still hasn’t forgiven Dickinson – calling his behavior “childish” and “irresponsible”.

He tells The Quietus, “Every night he was going on stage sl**ging me off. And that wasn’t fair. If he didn’t like the f**king tour, he should have said, ‘I’m jumping (off) the f**king tour…’ I’d never said a f**king bad thing to him…

“Sharon got p**sed off… It was nothing to do with me. I’ll back my wife up to the hilt, but I didn’t know what was going down (with the alleged egg-throwing). But you know what? (Iron Maiden were getting) a few f**king quid (pounds) out of that Ozzfest. If you’ve got something to talk to me about, be a man. Come to my face and say, ‘I think you’re a f**king a**hole.’

“Don’t be a f**king idiot. It’s so pathetically childish…

“To this day I don’t understand what the f**king beef (problem) was. I just don’t get it… I really think he needs a f**king psychiatrist if he does that, he’s f**king nuts. It’s an irresponsible f**king thing to do. Sharon must have got p**sed off with this c**t, you know.”

New Buzz Music

Canada has a history of producing many a successful rock act and this latest group are no exception with their impressive and very raunchy debut single “Porn Star Dancing”.

It is very likely that very few have heard of the group My Darkest Days, although that is likely to change this coming week, when the Toronto based group debut their debut single as Catch of The Day, on The Morning Dizzaster with Web & Coral.

The song was co-written and produced by Chad Kroeger of Nickelback fame. Like with other fellow Canadian rockers Default, Kroeger has undertaken producing and co-writing duties for the boys, hopefully propelling them to the level of rock stardom enjoyed by Kroger and his cohorts.

The video for “Porn Star Dancing” is reminiscing of 1987’s “Girls Girls Girls”.  The guys of my Darkest Days got a little help from Chad Koeger, Zakk Wylde, Rapper Ludacris and almost every exotic dancer in the Las Vegas area.
